So many natural disasters have been occurring in different places. Some people have lost everything they own. They have lost their home, clothes, food, precious things that cannot be replaced. Towns have been leveled and some have lost their lives.

Can anyone imagine not being able to put clothes on your 6-month-old baby because there are none? Can anyone imagine worrying where they will get their next meal, shower, or wash the clothes they are currently wearing because they only have one set? Or, when will they get their next medication from when they have no more?

Spiritists know that all suffering is in accordance with the divine laws, especially of cause and effect. However, there are also many people (and the good spirits) helping these souls that are in such terribly harsh conditions.

People give money for resources, they have given clothes, blankets, food, and water. Some have helped save people that are trapped, such as in flooded houses from hurricane Harvey or Irma, or in collapsed buildings from the earthquakes in California and Mexico, and people rescued from fires out West.

Neighbors are helping each other by sharing their generators to give power to more than just themselves; they have been helping each other clean the debris from their yards; fixing minor repairs to their homes or other damage if they can. There are so many good things being done not heard about on the news or read about in the newspapers.

People do have kindness in their hearts and souls. When the opportunity arises for you to help, step in and lend a hand, with every unselfish good deed and thought, merit is given.

When you return to the spirit world your kind deeds and thoughts will make you feel so much better. Say and think good things, and mean them deep down in your heart and soul. Help others in as many ways as you can.

Prayer is very powerful, and helps all those who suffer.

Pray to God to heal the planet from all things that we know hurt it. Pray for the leaders of the world to assist those in need, and to keep the peace in their nation and peace with all the nations around them. Pray that people around the world forget that there are borders, and that they help neighbor nations in need and trouble.

May God bless all who suffer!

The challenge to overcome suffering may cause despair, test one's strength, and may even promote the expectations of others as they naturally, maybe even joyfully, continue living life.

In our trials, we must never begrudge others their happiness or ability to be light bearers unto the world.

Also, it is wonderful when people extend love, support, and compassion in our direction during difficulty; and though you may lovingly do this at times, it should not be expected from others.

Do not forget that God is the greatest source of strength, love, and support!

Each of us are solely responsible and held spiritually accountable for how we handle personal matters.

Pray and exercise faith, guard against negative thoughts and their expression, be patient, and hold self-compassion.

Truly, all trials come to pass. Then one day, you will be among the smiling. You then may become a much needed, Earthly carrier of shining light for others.

From Kardec’s The Spirits’ Book, in question 622: Has God given to some men the mission of revealing His law?

The spirits respond: Yes, certainly. In every age, there have been men [and woman] who have received this mission; spirits of high degree, who have incarnated themselves for the purpose of advancing human progress.”

Your movement through life may be likened to that of an operator of a single-seat sail boat.
Every intent and action is significant along the journey, as consequences result from both.

Each directional intent instructs the hand how to move the rudder in order to steer ahead. The sail boat's rudder movement may be likened to the level of your moral compass in that personal morality influences or steers choices while navigating through life.

Along the way, the results (from a culmination of decisions) determine where you arrive. You are your being's captain - are you steering in the direction of your desired destination?

Let us not forget that though stormy weather may cause great challenges, faith and perseverance can fill your sails to withstand and carry you past adversity.

We must respect others’ voyaging abilities, as they also travel according to their own competencies and moral code, and they too will land accordingly.

We cannot make the trip for another, but we may be a guiding light to help ease the way.

From Kardec’s The Spirits’ Book, in question 258: Before taking on a new material existence, does a spirit foresee the things which will happen to him in that new existence?

The spirits respond: “He chooses for himself the kind of trials which he will undergo, and it is this freedom of choice that his freewill consists.”

At our last session, a spirit communicated through one of our mediums saying their group tried to interfere with some of our mediums in performing their spiritual work. They were unable to do so due to the mediums’ will power and prayerfulness. I conversed with the spirit to educate it, and it agreed to leave with our spirit guides for further education. There are many groups of spirits of different moral and intellectual levels that DO NOT want the knowledge of the whys and wherefores of life to be spread, either out of fear, evil intent or to just keep people ignorant. Below, an open letter to that group of spirits and others like them.

                        Written by Julie L. Harper

You conveyed to us at our Spiritist session that you felt that our spiritual work scares you and others, and tried to stop us.

Our writings and work are of spiritual truths and are not intended to spread fear, but to deliver understanding.

Consider that which you don't already know so that you may grow with new spiritual knowledge.

Spiritual laws are universal and infallible, so if you test them, your corresponding results will teach this first hand.

But, do so with caution, as this is how many learn lessons the hard way; even in the spiritual world, each soul is still held accountable for intent and actions.

Could this be the root of your fear – having personal responsibility for all that you are and do?

Fear is not a good direction for focus, as fear prompts poor action that delivers poor results.

And, consider how unwanted spirit interference in human works do not honor God's gift of free will for all.

Remember, spirits who try to cause influences to hinder, alter, or stop beneficial human acts are not treating others as they want to be treated, for no one desires unwanted intrusion.

Consider how acts taken out of fear are a disconnect from faith that God's love is supportive and greater than that which you may be fearful of.

Fearful acts may influence some, maybe for a time, but they can never change the spiritual truths that govern spiritual laws. Ultimately, like consequences in corresponding sentiment to intent and action taken, always occur, so think carefully about what you too want to experience.

Dearly departed, those of us who work in goodness such as by spiritual writings [and other spiritual work] mean no harm.

On the contrary, we intend to uplift, and to show others a belief system that promotes a lifestyle option that is in accordance to spiritual truths, that if followed, ultimately delivers the peace we all seek.

Take from us what is useful, but do not fear that which you may not yet understand. Again, acting on fear never delivers one's most desirable result.

You, just as we, are all on a path of growth toward the peace that comes with possessing traits of a better character, which calls for all beings to be proactive with acts by love and grace.

It is our hope that you not only consider that which you fearfully misunderstand, but that you study spiritual truths to encourage a high moral direction as you continue to evolve.

In Peace and Good Will

“Progress is a law of nature. All beings of creation, be they animated or not, have been submitted to this law through the bounty of God, who wishes everything to be exalted and to prosper.”

“Even actual destruction, which appears to Man to be the end of everything, is only a means of reaching a more perfect state through transformation, seeing that everything dies only to be reborn again, suffering no consequences from the annihilation.”

“At the same time as living beings progress morally, so the worlds in which they live progress materially. If we were to accompany a world during its different phases, from the first instant the atoms destined to its construction began to agglomerate, we would see it travelling along on a constantly progressive scale, although these steps would be imperceptible to each generation.”

“It would offer its inhabitants a more agreeable home as these generations passed, according to the manner in which they themselves advanced along their pathway to progress. Nothing in nature remains stationary.”

“So, we find that together with Man, the animals who are his helpers, the plants, and the habitations are all constantly marching along parallel to one another. How glorious this idea is and so worthy of the grandeur of the Creator!”

“…According to this law, the world has been in a materially and morally inferior position to that which it finds itself today, and it will lift itself up in both these aspects so as to reach a more elevated degree in the future…”

Spirit communication by St. Augustine – in Paris, France, 1862.

(Excerpt from Kardec’s The Gospel according to Spiritism item 19, translated by Janet Duncan)

Dear God,

Please help us to have the humility and the inner strength to support the trials and tests we chose for this life time.

Please comfort all those who suffer.

Help us to keep as calm as we can…so we can act with a steady clear mind and with love in our hearts as much as possible…no matter our adversities, or, the ill will, ungratefulness or the wrongful acts of others that we may face.

For we know the Divine Laws are Perfect, and everyone is responsible for their own actions and their inevitable consequences, whether for good or bad.

So, help us to be good, and do good.

May the good spirits bless us, guide us and help us. May we merit their goodwill and protection, and may we be receptive to their beneficial influences.

No matter how dire our circumstances, let us have faith in God and hope for the future, for we will receive great rewards for all our good efforts, whether in this life or the next.

We pray for inner peace, and tranquility and spiritual harmony for ourselves and our planet.
